Inclined Plane Feasibility Study

Aim:  This study looks into the feasibility of the connecting of the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal with the adjacent River Weaver using an inclined plane boat lift.

Scope:  The study area lies to the South East of Winsford at the Winsford Flashes where the River Weaver and the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal are in close proximity to each other.

Content:  The report provides an appraisal of seven potential schemes and provides financial estimates for two of these schemes.  Two options for both schemes, one functional and one iconic, were then considered.  The report pays attention to environmental considerations as well as providing an economics and cost benefit analysis.
