Maidenhills Wildlife Area Middlewich
- Dense clumps of trees were thinned out to open up the space and allow the remaining trees to reach their full size. The tree thinnings were laid in log piles in the wooded areas to attract invertebrates.
-
A rough mown area of grass is now a wildflower meadow with a mown path through the middle for walkers. Flowers include Oxeye Daisy, Field Scabious and Musk Mallow. As well as looking attractive for walkers and boaters, the wild flowers will attract invertebrates and birds into the area.
-
Native woodland bulbs have been planted beneath the trees. Native daffodils have been planted along the canal towpath.
-
Bird, bat and bug boxes have been fixed to many of the trees for additional habitat provision.
-
5 new hardwood seats have been placed overlooking the canal for cyclists, walkers or boaters to sit and enjoy the area.
-
A new path has been defined providing walkers with an alternative route to the canal towpath, which takes people into the Maidenhills Wildlife area. |
